The Impact of Technology on My Life

Technology has done a lot of things for me in the last ten years. Starting when I was younger, I always had a television around to entertain me. I remember many days of listening to songs on the radio too. As I have grown older, technology has become a much more influential aspect of my life. Technology has influenced my schooling and my social life greatly over the last few years especially. High school is when computers and laptops were implemented the most. My last three years of high school, most of my math homework was done solely online on a website called "mathxl.com". Social media slowly became a part of my life starting my sophomore year of high school. I started using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram more and more as a way to connect with my fellow peers and friends. They turned in to a very resourceful way to keep up with new trends and the latest news. Technology has also became a very useful resource to find out how to do virtually anything that you might need to do. I have found myself becoming very dependent on the network and technology as have a lot of people changing to the modern ways. We feel lost when we don't have access to the internet. I am very fortunate to have grown up with technology because I hear stories from the generations above about all of the books and handwritten letters. We are fortunate to have a plethora of ways to quickly communicate with others. We have calling, texting, e-mails, online shopping, and many other ways of communicating that we take for granted. We don't realize the amount of brain power that goes into connecting the right amount of wires, lines, and frequencies to make all of this communication possible. The amount of technology we have available to us has ultimately made us lazy. It is also one of the greatest factors leading to procrastination, which I know from personal experiences. I get distracted so easily by my phone, the television, or the computer because of all of the available ways to lose your focus. So all in all, as much of a helpful resource as technology is, it can be just as detrimental to learning especially. It can slow down learning just as fast and it can speed it up. It can be very convenient and solve problems in a hurry, but it can also lead to distraction of the task at hand and lead to unnecessary time added onto a project.
